Michael Merrion practices in the areas of federal and state taxation and business planning, formation, purchases and sales of businesses. Michael Merrion serves as corporate counsel for a number of businesses and has practiced in the area of tax as both a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and as a tax attorney for over 40 years.  He holds a Masters of Tax Law degree as well as accounting and business degrees. He is also the author of dozens of books and articles on tax law and taught tax law classes and seminars for over 25 years to other accountants and lawyers throughout the country.

Michael Merrion prides himself on his hands-on, entrepreneurial-minded approach to working with business clients. He has set up many successful companies, including entities organizes as corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies. His work involves structuring the business, providing business advice, tax planning, and drafting a wide variety of business contracts and documents. He assists his clients in answering the difficult questions that are presented to them in the complex environment of business and tax law.

Michael Merrion confines his litigation practice to the area of tax law. His years of experience in the tax courts have provided him with a foundation in courtroom excellence.  Because of his reputation as an aggressive litigator, Michael Merrion is able to frequently help his clients reach a successful resolution to tax problems through negotiation and settlement. Many of his business clients approach him with very sensitive issues. Their goal is to avoid litigation. Michael Merrion advises and assists these clients with choosing and implementing the best form of alternative dispute resolution for their particular situation.

Michael Merrion receives referrals from accountants and other attorneys throughout the United States. He works closely with the referral sources in resolving their mutual client’s tax problem and limits his representation to the matter at hand.
